Last night, the girls and I were sitting on the deck and we started talking about how cute they all were when they were little (and what ever happened to THAT…okay, I didn’t say that out loud though haha). There was debate about who was the cutest and while I won’t rehash that part of our conversation (because they had it all wrong…they were ALL cutest!), we agreed that some of the most memorable photos in our family albums were evidence to support the arguments made.
Without question, we all agreed that this little series of photos were BEYOND memorable, and so I decided that this week’s flashback Friday would be these images of my youngest daughter. This girl was the MOST expressive of the kids in photos…likely because when she was one, I started my photography business so she had the most practise in front of a camera. However in life, she is just full of drama and creativity and there are many photographs to highlight that aspect of her character.
I love this series. They were taken back when as a family we watched American and Canadian Idol together, which was probably one of the only shows that we all could enjoy together. And it played right into my own childhood fantasy of being a rock star (or a teacher or an optometrist…I was a bit all over the map you could say). In these photos, she wasn’t performing for me or the camera. I remember going to GET the camera when I saw her doing this. Of course she was aware of me then, but like most little kids, they don’t always feel like they need to edit their behaviour when some is watching. They express themselves without feeling self concious, as long as we allow them too. And we should. The world causes us to edit our public behaviour soon enough. I am VERY sure I could not done a pretend micro phone and shades and sing loudly for all to hear and pull that off without someone questioning my sanity.
Instead, we should strive to more child-like sometimes. It is good for the soul and all that ails you.
“Dance as though no one is watching you,
Love as though you have never been hurt before,
Sing as though no one can hear you,
Live as though heaven is on earth.” ― Souza
